Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts will teach a law course in New Zealand this summer.
Rumors about a potential vacancy coming on the high court this summer proffered by Republican senators do not seem to have stopped several justices from making their summer plans. Roberts will teach a four-day course at Victoria University of Wellington in July on “how the role and operation of the United States Supreme Court have changed over time,” according to the school’s website.
Roberts’ summer plans mirror those of Justice Anthony Kennedy, who will teach for his 27th year at the McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific, in Salzburg, Austria. The program Kennedy teaches will run July 2-21 and classes will be held in a “renovated 16th century palace,” per the school’s website.
But the justice with the most eye-catching upcoming extracurricular activity is Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. In recent public appearances promoting her latest book, My Own Words, the 84-year-old justice has routinely mentioned an upcoming movie starring Natalie Portman as Ginsburg. While Ginsburg’s level of involvement in the film’s production is not clear, her fame is likely to only grow as a result.
