Look up during your lunch break on Friday to see some of the Coast Guard’s air fleet fly over Washington to celebrate the service’s aviation centennial.
The Coast Guard is scheduled to conduct a commemorative flyover of the District on Friday at 1 p.m., weather permitting, according to a Coast Guard release.
The flight path of the nine aircraft, including some with historical paint schemes, cruises over the district, then past the Pentagon and into Arlington.
The Coast Guard’s release recommends viewing the flyover from several areas in downtown D.C., including Nationals Park, Fort McNair, Hains Point, the Jefferson Memorial, Gravelly Point Park in Arlington and the Pentagon.
The event is part of the celebration of 100 years of Coast Guard aviation.
The types of aircraft that will participate in the flyover are: the H-65 Dolphin helicopter, the MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter, the HC-144 Casa aircraft, the C-27J medium-range surveillance aircraft, the HC-130 long-range recover aircraft, and the C-37 Gulfstream G-5 long-range command and control aircraft. You can see what each looks like to be able to spot them during the flyover here.
