Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., openly wondered Tuesday whether the United States is ready for a ticket including two women, namely former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
Tester, who chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, made the remark to WNYC’s Todd Zwillich in audio that was posted on June 3. In the audio clip, which was flagged by America Rising, Tester was asked if the U.S. is ready for a ticket with two women on it, to which he responds, “I don’t know.”
“Well, I don’t know. Is the country ready for two women? I don’t know,” Tester said. “You know? I don’t know.”
The DSCC chair made the remark after offering praise for Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, who has also been floated as a potential running mate for Clinton.
“I’m a big Sherrod Brown fan,” Tester said. “I say it in a somewhat joking way, but truth is that Sherrod and I are good friends and it has a Republican governor in the state of Ohio so it probably wouldn’t be good for the body, but I think he would bring a nice mix to the ticket.”
