Haywood backs up his blog

Have you seen Brendan Haywood’s latest blog post?

Here’s what he had to say about it when asked after practice today if he’d gotten any reaction: “It’s interesting, you know. Some people obviously might not like it. Some people do like it. It’s just a different point of view. A lot of people are bashing Tiger [Woods] out there, and he’s done his thing. But I think, my thing is that I always look at both sides. I look at everything, and sometimes I’ll put something out there that’s maybe not that popular just because a lot of people are thinking it. I wasn’t the only person thinking that.”

I’d have to ask around to see if a lot were saying that, though.

Haywood, who’s angling to get himself into the sports media once his career is over, was on the radio earlier this year, and he’s already been in a little bit of trouble with the blog after posting this item on Stephon Marbury before following it up with an apology.

“I like blogging because whether you disagree with what I’m saying or you like what I say, I like reading different people’s points of view,” said Haywood. “I always read all the comments. I write my own blog. I read all the comments, and I’ll respond back to some of them. You can only play basketball for so long. After a while you gotta do a little somethin somethin else and just take some time away.”

Good ol’ argument for argument’s sake. That’s what sports is all about, said Haywood.

“I’d love to do a show like Pardon the Interruption or get up there with Skip Bayless,” said Haywood. “I watch that every day because I love it. That’s what sports is. Sports isn’t fun if you just sit at home watching by yourself. That’s why people go to sports bars, so they can argue with people, they can high five their friends, or they’re talking junk to their friends about this guy or their team did this and that.  Especially in the African American culture. When you walk into the barbershop Monday after the NFL, they’re going to be talking junk about how the Redskins won, how they lost, how the Cowboys did, because around here, it’s a lot of Dallas and Redskins. That’s basically what it is, and that’s what it is. It’s banter. ESPN has taken what happens behind closed doors and put it on TV. I’m part of that. I grew up talking junk every time my team won and trying to duck out and hide every time they lost.”
