Trump ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if Democrats impeach for hiding Baghdadi raid from Pelosi

President Trump hit back at Democratic critics complaining that he kept them in the dark about the raid that killed Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.

“Can you believe that Shifty Adam Schiff, the biggest leaker in D.C., and a corrupt politician, is upset that we didn’t inform him before we raided and killed the #1 terrorist in the WORLD!?” Trump said Monday night on Twitter. “Wouldn’t be surprised if the Do Nothing Democrats Impeach me over that!”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized the president Sunday for not informing her of the raid.

“The House must be briefed on this raid, which the Russians but not top Congressional Leadership were notified of in advance, and on the Administration’s overall strategy in the region,” she said in a statement.

Trump defended himself to reporters, saying, “I told my people we will not notify them until the — our great people are out.”

“I don’t want to have them greeted with firepower like you wouldn’t believe,” he added.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel responded to Trump’s comments, saying his decision was “insulting.”

“His implication that Speaker Pelosi, the elected representative third in line for the presidency, cannot be trusted with sensitive information is tremendously problematic and insulting, and further politicizes foreign policy — especially when Trump has shown himself to be an untrustworthy guardian of our national security and sensitive intelligence information,” he said.

The president is currently in the middle of an impeachment inquiry over whether he offered the Ukrainian government a quid pro quo agreement to investigate Joe Biden and his son in exchange for military aid. Democrats have not yet signaled if they would impeach for keeping the Baghdadi raid a secret.
