Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif., said Wednesday that Donald Trump is a “bigoted man” who should be classified as a “racist.”
“I certainly believe based on his remarks that he is a bigoted man,” said Becerra, who chairs the House Democratic Caucus. “I certainly believe that if he’s unwilling to say he apologizes for the racist things that he said, that he should be classified as a racist.”
“And I certainly believe that any Republican who says that his remarks are racist but still wants to endorse him for president has to recognize they’re asking America to elect a racist to be President of the United States,” he said.
As Hillary Clinton prepares to meet with House Democrats Wednesday morning, Becerra boasted that unlike the polarized situation within the GOP, the Democratic congressman are all already behind Clinton.
The caucus leader said House Democrats are ready to get working for Clinton and want to “hear her message” and talk to her about how to get things done. “We’re kind of tired of watching a Congress that’s been on autopilot, asleep at the wheel,” he said.
Although Becerra is a high-ranking member of the Democratic Party, he reported that he was “no direct knowledge” of vice presidential vetting “occurring for me or anyone else.”
