The popular social media platform Facebook “mistakenly deleted” scores of old posts from Mark Zuckerberg’s account, some dating back to 2011.
According a report from Business Insider, many of the deleted posts were widely reported on by news outlets around the world. The vanished posts from the public profile of the 34-year-old Facebook CEO coincide with one of the most important times in the company’s history, including its purchase of Instagram and the lead-up to becoming publicly traded.
“A few years ago some of Mark’s posts were mistakenly deleted due to technical errors. The work required to restore them would have been extensive and not guaranteed to be successful so we didn’t do it,” a Facebook representative said in a statement on Friday.
“We agree people should be able to find information about past announcements and major company news, which is why for years we’ve shared and archived this information publicly — first on our blog and in recent years on our Newsroom,” the representative said.
Links to the posts, some which have been screenshotted and preserved by various news outlets or appear in Facebook’s Newsroom, lead to a dead Facebook page.
