Clinton surges to 7-point lead in Nevada two weeks before Election Day

Donald Trump has lost his edge in Nevada just two weeks before Election Day, according to a new poll that shows him trailing Hillary Clinton by 7 percentage points in the western swing state.

Clinton leads her Republican opponent 48 percent to 41 percent in the the new poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which endorsed Trump’s presidential bid on Saturday. Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson draws 6 percent support in the same poll, while 4 percent of voters remain undecided 14 days before the Nov. 8 election.

Trump’s support has declined by 3 percentage points since late September, when the same poll found him at 44 percent support – well within striking distance of Clinton, who was backed by 45 percent of likely voters in the Silver State last month.

The Republican presidential nominee has struggled to return from a polling slump in many battleground states after he was caught making lewd comments about women on an audio tape earlier this month. Trump has since faced multiple allegations of sexual assault.

Clinton, meanwhile, has faced new questions about whether the investigation into her private email practices was tainted and the overlap between the Clinton Foundation and State Department when she was at its helm. However, the former secretary of state’s performance in the final debate helped bolster her support among voters in the Silver State.

Clinton has also seen slight improvements in her favorability rating. Fifty percent of voters now have a positive opinion of the Democratic nominee, up 2 percentage points from last month. Trump’s favorability rating has simultaneously declined by 4 percentage points, and close to 60 percent of voters now hold a negative view of the billionaire.

The survey of 800 likely voters in Nevada was conducted in English and Spanish between Oct. 20-23, following the final presidential debate last Wednesday in Las Vegas. The results contain a margin of error plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
