Raphael Warnock reports $17.2 million fundraising haul, vastly outpacing Herschel Walker

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) has reported a massive fundraising haul for the second quarter, raking in $17.2 million, more than double what his Republican challenger Herschel Walker reported in the same time frame.

Warnock’s campaign reported an average donation of $37, touting more than 258,000 people who contributed between April and June, according to reports obtained by Axios. As a result, the Democratic incumbent holds nearly $22.2 million cash on hand heading into quarter three.

Walker reported his best fundraising quarter yet, but he came in far behind Warnock with only $6.2 million raised during the second quarter. The Trump-backed candidate received the funds from nearly 70,000 people across all 50 states, according to his campaign.

The Republican now heads into the third quarter with nearly $7 million cash on hand.

The latest numbers come at a crucial time for Walker after he announced a string of new hires last week, including several expert national specialists. The Republican candidate faces an uphill battle trying to recover from recent criticisms stemming from reports that Walker has three previously undisclosed children.

Walker rejected the notion that his additional children were a “secret,” saying he listed the names and ages of his children on a government form for the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition during Trump’s administration.

“Herschel had a child years ago when he wasn’t married. He’s supported the child and continues to do so. He’s proud of his children. To suggest that Herschel is ‘hiding’ the child because he hasn’t used him in his political campaign is offensive and absurd,” Scott Paradise, Walker’s campaign manager, told the Washington Examiner in a statement.

Walker has three sons and an adult daughter, and they do not have the same mother, he later confirmed. Prior to that revelation, the public only knew of one son, 22-year-old Christian Walker, who Walker had with his first wife. His two other sons are 10 and 13, but their names have not been revealed. The name and age of his daughter were also not released.

Walker and Warnock are set to face off during the general election on Nov. 8. While the race is expected to be tight, Warnock has enjoyed higher poll numbers over his Republican opponent, with 54% saying they’d vote for Warnock over Walker (44%), according to a Quinnipiac poll.
