LOS ANGELES (AP) — The National Park Service is recommending protections and improved management of Southern California’s San Gabriel River and San Gabriel Mountains.

Recommendations released Wednesday call on Congress to designate a National Recreation Area for the river from the Angeles National Forest to Santa Fe Springs and for a swath of the San Gabriel Mountains’ foothills.
