Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., scolded President Trump Monday afternoon for referring to her as “Pocahontas” during a White House ceremony in which he honored Native Americans who fought in World War II.
“It is deeply unfortunate that the President of the United States cannot even make it though a ceremony honoring these heroes without having to throw out a racial slur,” Warren said in a statement.

Two code talkers had been standing next to Trump during the ceremony when he again used his favorite nickname for Warren, who has claimed her ancestors were Native Americans.
“You were here long before any of us were here,” Trump said. “Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.”
The honorees and audience did not laugh or respond to the quip.
