California Sen. Kamala Harris repeated a similar refrain about President Trump and her beliefs about gun control during the Thursday Democratic presidential debate in Houston.
During a back-and-forth about gun control with front-runner Joe Biden, Harris repeated her belief that President Trump is responsible for the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, in August.
“Well look, obviously he didn’t pull the trigger, but he’s been tweeting out the ammunition,” she said
She further praised El Paso native and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke for their shared belief in strict gun control, which includes a mandatory buyback of all assault rifles.
“Beto, God love you for standing so courageously in the midst of that tragedy,” she said during her passionate but familiar speech that recalled meeting shooting victims and children who have gone through active shooting drills at their schools.
Harris repeated, nearly verbatim, her comments made just days after the El Paso shooting, which claimed the lives of nearly two dozen people at a Walmart.
“Trump didn’t pull the trigger at El Paso last weekend, but he’s certainly been tweeting out the ammunition,” Harris said during the Gun Sense Forum on Aug. 10.
