EXCLUSIVE — An upcoming biblical film has broken the all-time record for audience investing support.
Angel Studios has announced its animated feature film David has surpassed the record for all-time audience funding of a film production with $49.7 million in investments.

The Chosen, the award-winning streaming series based on the life of Jesus, previously held the record, raising $11 million for its first season.
Angel Studios President Jordan Harmon told the Washington Examiner it is exciting to see support for projects grow beyond what critics ever expected.
“People were like, ‘Well, you can’t get to big budgets you need for it to compete with Hollywood.’ And now David’s proving that wrong,” Harmon said.
“It’s awesome to see the industry as a whole starting to recognize the power of this,” Harmon added. “The most meaningful part is that we’re creating content, film and TV series, that the audience want.”
Harmon explained that Angel Studios began its crowdfunding model with the idea of making a difference in a media culture that was “spiraling through darker and darker places.”
“We believe that these stories Angel is telling will help mold the culture into light,” Harmon said. “That’s our mission is to tell stories that amplify light.”
David will bring the biblical account of Israel’s warrior champion and king David to the screen with a worldwide theatrical release set for 2025.

“David’s story is very important and speaks to a huge global faith community,” Executive Producer and Slingshot USA Director Phil Cunningham said. “It remains one of the best-known biblical stories outside of the faith community; we feel a huge sense of responsibility to make a movie that is epically entertaining, deeply authentic, and can stand alongside the very best major studio movies in terms of quality.”
Investing to reach the project’s original goal of $60.9 million remains open until March 31.
