Man tossed from New York bar for wearing ‘MAGA’ hat loses discrimination case

A man thrown out of a Manhattan bar for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat has lost his discrimination case because New York state and city laws do not protect against political discrimination.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice David Cohen on Wednesday ruled against Philadelphia accountant Greg Piatek, 31, after he brought a suit claiming staff at the Happiest Hour “offended his sense of being America” in January 2017 when they kicked him out for being a President Trump supporter, according to the Associated Press.

Piatek and his friends had earlier complained about rude service at the bar.

Piatek’s loss follows his lawyer Paul Liggieri failing to convince the court Wednesday that backing Trump “was part of his spiritual belief,” per the New York Post.

“Rather than remove his hat, instead he held true to his spiritual belief and was forced from the bar,” Liggieri said.

Piatek’s attorney is considering whether or not to appeal the decision.
