Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan was tapped Wednesday to deliver a far-left response to President Joe Biden‘s State of the Union address on Tuesday, March 1.
Tlaib will deliver the Working Families Party’s response directly following Biden’s remarks.
“Progressives have been leading the way in the fight to deliver for working people and providing a vision in which everyone can thrive and not just survive. Join Working Families Party for a #WFPResponse given by @RashidaTlaib,” the party wrote in a tweet.

According to its Twitter account, the Working Families Party is “a progressive grassroots political party building a multiracial, feminist movement of working people to transform America.”
Some have speculated that Tlaib will slam centrist Democrats who have slowed progress on key bills in the Senate. The congresswoman is also expected to promote the Build Back Better Bill in her speech.

“No one fought harder for Build Back Better and a pro-democracy agenda than progressives,” she said in a statement.
“The work is unfinished and we’re not giving up on what our communities deserve. We need to get as much done for the people as we can this year, and elect a majority that can deliver for working families in 2023.”
In response to coverage of the announcement, she tweeted, “Despite some sensational coverage, it’s simple: I’m giving a speech about supporting President Biden and his Build Back Better agenda for the people. On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds will deliver the GOP response to Biden’s address.
“Gov. Kim Reynolds’s leadership in Iowa shows how Republican leadership delivers freedom and opportunity. Gov. Reynolds is the perfect leader to give the Republican response to Joe Biden,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said of the choice.

“The American people have had enough, but there is an alternative and that’s what I look forward to sharing on Tuesday evening,” Reynolds said in a press release.
