A routine traffic stop for an alleged seat belt violation led Maryland Transportation Authority police to seize more than a kilogram of heroin worth more than $300,000 on Wednesday.
At approximately 3 p.m., a Maryland Transportation Authority Police Officer stopped Andre Darrell Lewis, 24, of 700 block of North Carey Street, Baltimore, who was driving a 2005 Nissan, traveling on I-95 southbound in the White Marsh area.
The officer requested a K-9 scan of the vehicle, which turned up drugs in the trunk of the car, police said.
Lewis and his passenger, Dwayne Antonio Holland Jr., 18, of the 2200 block of Ashburton Street, Baltimore, were arrested and charged with drug possession, possession with intent to distribute, and importation of heroin into the state, police said.
Lewis is being held on a $2 million bond and Holland on $1.5 million bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
