Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos testified in front of the House Appropriations subcommittee to discuss the president’s 2019 budget request for the department Tuesday and ended up having a fraught back-and-forth with one lawmaker.
During her testimony, Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Mass., grilled the secretary on whether federal dollars to private schools will be tied to LGBT protections afforded to students in public institutions.
