Former President Bill Clinton’s consultant Dick Morris said President Trump is using “up all the oxygen in the room,” leaving none for 2020 Democrat Joe Biden because of the coronavirus outbreak.
“[Biden] has disappeared. Trump and Cuomo have literally sucked up all the oxygen in the room. It’s so interesting to see the disappearance of Joe Biden, and, frankly, the disappearance of the Democratic candidates for president,” Morris said Sunday on AM 970 in New York.
“This crisis is working out as an amazing boost to Donald Trump’s electability. People see a new Donald Trump emerging as he meets this crisis and he handles it,” he added. “The presidency forces people to grow. I believe Trump has grown new abilities and new talents and new wisdom. The result is a big change in the way the voters view him.”
Morris also dismissed the possibility of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo edging Biden out of being the Democratic presidential nominee.
“There’s no way that Biden can be defeated at the convention. In fact, legally, the delegates that have been selected are bound to him, and have to vote for him as long as he wants them to vote for him,” he said. “Get realistic — [Biden] has been running for president since he was born. This is his third try. He’s not going to pull out.”
The consultant added that Biden will “go down in history” as one of the “biggest losers” ever.
The former vice president has been quarantining at his home during the coronavirus outbreak. It took his team several days to set up a livestream for him to broadcast. He was forced to apologize after his first virtual town hall was plagued by “technical difficulties” and gaffes.
Trump’s approval rating has risen to an all-time high during the coronavirus pandemic, with 60% of voters approving of his handling of the outbreak.
