Todd Ricketts will not be joining President Trump’s Cabinet.
Ricketts, a member of the billionaire Ricketts family and a Chicago Cubs board member, had been tapped by Trump to be his deputy commerce secretary. However, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday Ricketts’ financial issues were too complicated to sort out to comply with the Office of Government Ethics.
The Sun-Times reported Ricketts was willing to divest from some of his personal holdings but not enough for the ethics office’s liking.
Trump said on Nov. 30 that he intended to nominate Ricketts, but the Senate Commerce Committee wouldn’t hold a hearing on his nomination until he had cleared Office of Government Ethics standards.
Ricketts controlled the family’s political operations up until he was nominated. The family owns the Chicago Cubs.
