‘He’s finally gone’: Former Clinton staffers planned ‘Bye, Bye Bernard’ celebration for Sanders

Former staffers for Hillary Clinton planned to hold a Zoom video call to celebrate Sen. Bernie Sanders dropping out of the 2020 primary.

“Invitation: Bye, bye Bernard (HFA celebration toast),” the email sent to staffers on Wednesday said, according to Buzzfeed News. “He’s finally gone (again!). Join for a celebratory toast if you can! And yes, you can loop :).”

The call, set for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, had its name changed to “HFA end of primary celebration toast” before eventually being canceled, according to sources.

Sanders announced on Wednesday that he would be suspending his campaign after seeing no pathway to victory in the Democratic primary.

“I wish I could give you better news, but I think you know the truth, and that is that we are now some 300 delegates behind Vice President Biden, and the path toward victory is virtually impossible,” the Vermont independent said in an address to supporters.

Clinton has made it clear there is no love lost between her 2016 primary opponent. In a recent Hulu documentary, the former secretary of state said “nobody likes him.”
