Bernie Sanders admires Cardi B’s political aspirations: ‘It would be great’

Bernie Sanders claimed “it would be great” if rapper Cardi B followed through with her political aspirations after she floated the idea earlier on Sunday.

The independent Vermont senator said that the rapper, who endorsed his 2020 presidential bid, could be a good politician because of her poverty-stricken background. He told TMZ, “Cardi B is deeply concerned about what’s happening in the country. She knows what it’s like to live in poverty and struggle, and it would be great for her to bring that experience to politics.”

Cardi B expressed her political interests Sunday on Twitter, writing, “I think I want to be a politician. I really love government even tho I don’t agree with Government. I do feel like if I go back to school and focus up I can be part of Congress. I deadass have sooo much ideas that make sense. I just need a couple of years of school and I can shake the table.”

The rapper sat down with the senator for a meeting in August where they discussed healthcare, student loan debt, and their mutual adoration for former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. “I want to tell my millions of followers, we’re here to educate you guys,” Cardi B said during the interview.

Cardi B may be backing Sanders in 2020, but she has before questioned where her tax dollars are going. In a video posted to social media, the rapper said, “So you know the government is taking 40% of my taxes. Uncle Sam, I want to know what you’re doing with my f—ing tax money. When you donate to a kid from a foreign country, they give you updates of what they’re doing with your donation. I want to know. I want receipts. I want everything.”
