Jennifer Palmieri, the communications director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, revealed longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin was “distraught” after the FBI announced shortly before the Election Day that emails from Clinton’s tenure at the State Department were found on her then-husband Anthony Weiner’s laptop.
“She was distraught. Hillary and I sat with her in our cabin on the plane as Huma sobbed. ‘He is going to kill me’ was all Huma could manage to say in between sobs,” Palmieri writes in an excerpt of her new book Dear Madam President published by Time magazine.
Palmieri added that Abedin had dealt with a lot in her marriage to Weiner, who is currently in prison for sending sexual messages to an underage girl, and on the campaign, but stayed “brave” throughout the crises.
“This was a rare moment when she broke down,” the excerpt said.
Palmieri also detailed how Clinton consoled her longtime aide.
“I watched as Hillary hugged her and was able to help calm Huma down. On the flight back to New York, Hillary insisted all of us have big ice-cream sundaes in an effort to cheer Huma up.”
