Judge to consider lowering Alex Murdaugh’s $7 million bond

Attorneys for disgraced South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh are asking a judge to lower his $7 million bond, arguing he has no money to pay it off.

Murdaugh’s attorneys are asking Circuit Judge Alison Renee Lee to reconsider the bond order she set in December 2021, arguing in a filing last week that the $7 million effectively amounts to a no bond decision. The filing cites Murdaugh’s assets, which were frozen in November 2021, making it impossible for him to use his own money to pay the bail, according to the Associated Press.
