CHICAGO (AP) — Gov. Pat Quinn’s running mate says Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner (ROW’-nur) needs to answer questions about long-term care facilities linked to his former private equity firm.

Lt. governor candidate Paul Vallas (VA’-liss) addressed reporters in Chicago Monday following a weekend story from The Springfield bureau of Lee Enterprises, which reported that Rauner’s former firm launched American Habilitation Services as a for-profit company in 1996. It later faced lawsuits and disciplinary action over the mistreatment of residents

Vallas alleges that Rauner profited from substandard care and has been dodging issues.

Republican Party officials have shot back, saying there were incidents of neglect at state-run facilities under Quinn’s tenure.

Vallas says that it’s not the same thing. He says that Rauner is a businessman who was trying to make a profit.
