The Fairfax Board of Supervisors voted to send Gov. Bob McDonnell a letter calling on the governor to drop the state’s funding-for-Metro-Board-seats ultimatum.
In the board-approved final draft of that letter, signed by Fairfax Board Chairwoman Sharon Bulova, the county states:
“If Virginia fails to make its capital payment on July 1, the gederal government has indicated that it will withhold its contribution. The District of Columbia and Maryland will likely withhold their payments as well. This will unravel the entire dedicated funding bill and will take away the vitally needed $300 million in dedicated funding.”
The letter says the Fairfax board would be willing to discuss governance changes on the Metro board, but only if that discussion is divorced from conversations about the state’s $50 funding contribution.
The letter strongly urges McDonnell to follow through on the state’s funding commitment, “as promised.”
