Hillary Clinton claimed Wednesday that none of Donald Trump’s proposals would have prevented the Orlando nightclub shootings that left 49 dead and 53 wounded.
“Not one of Donald Trump’s reckless ideas would have saved a life in Orlando. It is just one more example of how he is temperamentally unfit and unqualified to be commander in chief,” Clinton said during a National Security Roundtable in Hampton, Va., on Wednesday.”
Earlier in the week, Trump claimed that his Muslim ban would have prevented the Orlando shooting, as the shooter’s family was from Afghanistan. Clinton responded, “He was born in Queens, New York a few miles away from Donald Trump.” She also added that Trump’s approach to the issue “isn’t just wrong, it’s dangerous.”
Trump also repeatedly criticizes Democrats for not using the phrase “radical Islam.” Although Clinton recently adopted the phrase “radical Islamism” in her campaign speeches, she said that Trump, “clings to the phrase ‘radical Islam,’ as if once uttered they prevent terrorists from attacking us.”
In order to cur terrorist threats, the former secretary of state said she would make identifying and stopping lone wolves a top priority, using both the resources of the private and public sectors to do so. She also called for increased gun control, especially for those on the FBI terror watch list and no fly list.
