The next set of emojis, which includes 15 handshake combinations to represent variants of race as well as a pregnant man, are among a list that could be approved later in 2021 for use.
The emojis are drafts and could be changed prior to their final approval on Sept. 14, according to an Emojipedia blog on Wednesday.
“Pregnant Man and Pregnant Person are new, and recognize that pregnancy is possible for some transgender men and non-binary people. These are additions to the existing Pregnant Woman emoji,” the blog read.

“In past years, the majority of draft emoji candidates end up included on the final list. This list, in particular, has been worked on for a longer period of time, after Unicode 14.0 was delayed due to COVID-19,” the blog read, pointing to the additions of a pregnant person, a person wearing a crown, a troll with a club, and coral.
Gender-inclusive dancers, another topic the Unicode Emoji Subcommittee is exploring, could be considered in the future, the blog stated.
The list was announced ahead of World Emoji Day on Saturday, when Emojipedia will award a “Most Anticipated Emoji” to one of the emojis on the image collection.

Submissions for the list are “open to the general public,” but they must “meet the criteria for it to be reviewed,” according to the emoji proposal guidelines.
Critics of the lineup targeted the pregnant man or person emoji.
