President Trump on Thursday bashed his former fixer Michael Cohen for hiring Lanny Davis, a former White House lawyer in the Clinton administration, to represent him.
“So interesting that bad lawyer Michael Cohen, who sadly will not be testifying before Congress, is using the lawyer of Crooked Hillary Clinton to represent him – Gee, how did that happen?” Trump tweeted Thursday morning. “Remember July 4th weekend when Crooked [Hillary] went before FBI & wasn’t sworn in, no tape, nothing?”
Davis served as special counsel to former President Bill Clinton while he was in office from 1996 to 1998.
Trump brought up Cohen’s choice of representation the morning after Cohen postponed his planned testimony before Congress Wednesday.
Originally, Cohen was scheduled to publicly testify before the House Oversight Committee on Feb. 7, but Davis said it would be postponed due to threats on Cohen’s family from Trump and his lawyers.
“Due to ongoing threats against his family from President Trump and Mr. Giuliani, as recently as this weekend, as well as Mr. Cohen’s continued cooperation with ongoing investigations, by advice of counsel, Mr. Cohen’s appearance will be postponed to a later date,” Davis said in a statement Wednesday.
