Former FBI Director James Comey made his first public appearance days after his abrupt firing by President Trump stirred controversy.
Comey and his wife were photographed at one of the final performances of “Fun Home” at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.

Barbara Whitman, one of the show’s producers, told the New York Times that Comey bought the tickets some time ago for the Tony award-winning musical.
“They were wiping away the tears as they came backstage to meet the cast. He said something to the effect of it was the best thing they could have picked for their first outing,” Whitman said.
Whitman said the play is “awfully moving” and expected the Comeys were especially affected “at the end of a week like this.”
Comey’s 9-year-old neighbor also “hand delivered” chocolate chip cookies to the former FBI director’s house after his firing.
