The D.C.-chapter of Operation Homefront and the Bank of America Charitable Foundation have launched an effort to stuff backpacks with schools supplies for children of military members. Last year, more than 4,000 backpacks were handed out to boys and girls from military families in the Washington region.

“Military children will go back to school with full backpacks, ready to learn and the stress of providing these supplies will be lifted off the shoulders of already burdened military families,” said Vivian Dietrich, president of the DC Metro Chapter of Operation Homefront. Washingtonians can participate in the program through Aug. 5 by visiting local Dollar Tree stores, which will forward the supplies to the nonprofit group.
