Sarah Sanders: Twitter lets Trump reach people without ‘media filtering’

Deputy White House press secretary Sarah Sanders told reporters Monday that Twitter is President Trump’s way to circumvent media bias and speak directly to Americans.

“I think social media for the president is extremely important,” Sanders said. “It gives him the ability to speak directly to the people without the bias of the media filtering communication. He has over 100 plus million contacts through social media and all those platforms. I think it’s a very important tool for him to utilize.”

Reporters asked Sanders about recent tweets from President Trump criticizing the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, and whether Trump may have taken Khan’s comments out of context and calling for a “TRAVEL BAN,” conflicting with earlier statements that it was a “travel restriction.”

“I think [Trump’s tweets] matter in the sense that it gives him a communications tool that isn’t filtered through media bias,” Sanders said. “But at the same time, I think the media obsesses over every period, dot . . . I think it’s just the obsession over every detail of the president’s tweets. They come directly from the president’s twitter account.”

Sanders said she is not aware if Trump’s tweets are vetted by a lawyer before they are published.
