Metro’s proposal to raise riders’ fares starting on July 1 will further erode ridership, according to the agency’s own figures.

The agency estimates that ridership on the rail system would drop 1 percent under the increase, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said, and fall 1.3 percent on the bus system. Fare hikes typically drive down ridership, but transit agencies make up for the loss with the additional fare from the hike.
