The National Zoo announced Monday that the 3-year-old giant panda known as Bao Bao will be sent to China later this month.

The United States and China have a long-standing agreement that all cubs born in the United States must be sent to the China Wildlife Conservation Association for its breeding program.
There are fewer than 2,000 giant pandas in the world.
