Energy Secretary Rick Perry said Tuesday that he does not want the U.S. to walk away from the Paris climate change deal, but wants it renegotiated.
“I’m not going to say to the president of the U.S., just walk away from the Paris accord,” he said while addressing the Bloomberg New Energy Finance conference in New York. “But I am going to say renegotiate it.”
The comments comes as the Trump administration seeks to make a decision by the end of next month on whether to withdraw from the 2015 deal on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
A number of the president’s top advisers, including senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner, are against leaving the agreement, while others, such as EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, want Trump to withdraw.
