Chelsea Clinton Gets Bernie Sanders’ Stance on Health Care Wrong

Chelsea Clinton hit a few roadblocks on Tuesday, while stumping for her mother Hillary.

NBC reports that when asked about Bernie Sanders, Chelsea Clinton said this:

“Sen. Sanders wants to dismantle Obamacare, dismantle the CHIP program, dismantle Medicare, and dismantle private insurance,” she said during a campaign stop in New Hampshire. “I worry if we give Republicans Democratic permission to do that, we’ll go back to an era — before we had the Affordable Care Act — that would strip millions and millions and millions of people off their health insurance.”

But that’s not true.

Bernie Sanders is strongly opposed to repealing Obamacare, and actually wants to expand it.

In 2009, Sanders voted to reauthorize CHIP.

He wants Medicare for all.

“We need to expand Medicare to cover every man, woman and child as a single-payer national health care program”

However, he does want to end private insurance.

“When you do that, because you take private insurance companies out of the system whose only function in life is to try and make as much profit as they can … you end up providing healthcare for all.”

While Chelsea Clinton hasn’t called for an end to private insurance, she has criticized it in the past.
