At least 10 people are reported dead after an explosion rocked one, and possibly two, metro stations in St. Petersburg, Russia, Monday morning, according to multiple reports.
Reports from Russia’s second city stated explosions ripped through train cars at Sennaya Ploshchad station. Russian state media agencies also reported a blast hit Tekhnologichesky Institut station, but reports from St. Petersburg were not clear on whether a second explosion took place.
It’s unknown exactly how many people are injured, but initial reports indicated at least 10 people had been killed.

The Associated Press reported officials in Russia said the explosion was caused by an “explosive device” set off on the train.

Images being shared on social media showed a train car with a large hole and smoke filling a station.
The BBC reported Russian President Vladimir Putin was in St. Petersburg Monday morning and is aware of the situation.
Putin said all causes of the explosion are being considered, including terrorism.
“The causes of this event have not been determined yet, so it’s too early to talk about [possible causes]. The investigation will show. Certainly, we will consider all variants, common, criminal, first of all, of a terrorist nature,” he said, according to Russia Today, an English-language state news outlet.
