CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — The first two traps yielded three blue crabs and one stone crab. The diamondback terrapins living around the Nueces River mouth hadn’t taken the bait.

Because of Nueces Bay’s salt concentration and distance from the ocean, terrapins are the only turtles in the bay, said Aaron Baxter, a research specialist for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Center for Coastal Studies.
