Trump offers ‘warm support’ for Theresa May after rough election

President Trump expressed his continued support for British Prime Minister Theresa May by phone Friday after her party was a dealt a harsh blow, losing seats in Thursday’s national election.

“President Trump emphasized his commitment to the United States-United Kingdom special relationship and underscored that he looks forward to working with the Prime Minister on shared goals and interests in the years to come,” the White House said in a statement Friday evening, adding Trump offered “warm support” for May.

May’s Conservative Party lost seats while the opposition Labour Party made some gains in Thursday’s parliamentary election. May said she intends to remain in her position, but will take time to “reflect” on how to move forward following last night’s unexpected outcome.
