Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, told reporters that he had heard Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for 10 years. Reid said a former Bain Capital investor, whom Reid didn’t name, was the source of this information, although the Nevada Democrat added he wasn’t “certain” that charge was true. Here’s what Reid said during an interview with the Huffington Post:
“Harry, he didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years,” Reid recounted the person as saying.
“He didn’t pay taxes for 10 years! Now, do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain,” said Reid. “But obviously he can’t release those tax returns. How would it look?
Reid also said that Romney’s father, former Michigan governor George Romney, would be “so embarrassed about his son.” George Romney, who ran for president in 1968, died in 1995.
