Video shows beating of elderly Detroit nursing home patient

A video circulating on social media shows a young man brutally beating an elderly nursing home patient to force him off a bed.

Police in Michigan arrested a 20-year-old unidentified suspect believed to be the individual in the video, who is seen repeatedly punching the elderly man at Westwood Nursing Center in Michigan.

“The nursing home was unaware of the assault until they saw the video,” Detroit Police Chief James Craig said during a press conference Thursday. “We are still investigating that aspect of the case, but we do have a suspect in custody.”

The video was reportedly taken on May 15 as nursing homes remain in lockdown because of the coronavirus pandemic. The incident even caught the eye of President Trump, who asked for details about the nursing home and the status of the victim.

“Is this even possible to believe? Can this be for real? Where is this nursing home, how is the victim doing?” Trump tweeted on Thursday.

The graphic incident shows the young man, who was reportedly also a patient, punching the elderly man a total of 51 times, drawing blood. “Get the f— off my bed, n—-!” he is heard saying, before wiping blood from the elderly man’s face.
