Trump accuses Amazon of skirting ‘Internet taxes’

President Trump lashed out at the Washington Post and its owner, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, on Wednesday morning, calling the outlet “fake news.”

“The #AmazonWashingtonPost, sometimes referred to as the guardian of Amazon not paying internet taxes (which they should) is FAKE NEWS!” Trump said on his Twitter account.

Trump’s tweet comes after the Washington Post reported Tuesday that Trump displays a fake Time magazine cover at his golf clubs praising his success with “The Apprentice,” his television show.

It’s unclear what, specifically, Trump was referencing when he accused Amazon of not paying “Internet taxes.”

But in an interview with Fox News last year, Trump said Amazon was “getting away with murder, tax-wise,” and accused Bezos of using the Washington Post to skirt taxes.

“Every hour we’re getting calls from reporters from the Washington Post asking ridiculous questions, and I will tell you, this is owned as a toy by Jeff Bezos, who controls Amazon,” Trump said.

“He’s using the Washington Post for power so that the politicians in Washington don’t tax Amazon like they should be taxes,” the president continued.
