Trump agrees to interview with Telemundo anchor who confronted him over Mexican ‘rapists’ claim

President Trump has agreed to do an interview this week with Telemundo anchor José Diaz-Balart, with whom he clashed about Mexican immigrants during the 2016 campaign.

It will be his first interview with a Hispanic television network since taking office. The interview will air Thursday, two days after Trump officially kicks off his 2020 reelection campaign in Orlando.

Diaz-Balart is a Cuban American journalist who also is an anchor for “NBC Nightly News.”

In 2015, Diaz-Balart confronted then-candidate Trump in Texas about his comments disparaging illegal Mexican immigrants, accusing Mexico of deliberately sending murderers and rapists to the U.S.

Trump cut him off, saying, “No, no. You’re finished,” and said it was an example of the media misinterpreting his remarks.

Thursday’s interview will take place after he said Immigration and Customs Enforcement will begin deporting “millions” of illegal migrants next week.
