Oops: Obama-era official blasts Trump for his 2013 tweet about World War III

President Obama’s former director of the U.S. office of Government Ethics mistakenly condemned President Trump on Tuesday for a 2013 tweet warning that America’s “horrendous leadership” could lead to World War III.

In 2013, Trump tweeted, “Be prepared, there is a small chance that our horrendous leadership could unknowingly lead us into World War III.”

The former official, Walter Shaub, seemed to think Trump was tweeting that today about his own leadership skills and said Trump was being reckless.

“This is a reckless and irresponsible social media message for from the leader of the country with the largest nuclear arsenal in the world,” Shaub said in a post accompanied by a retweet of the president’s 2013 message.

Shaub later deleted the tweet and apologized. “Sorry,” he wrote. “Didn’t realize his tweet was from 2013.”

The Obama-era government ethics director resigned in July after months of clashing with the White House over their delay in disclosing ethics waivers of government appointees and the president’s refusal to divest from his businesses.
