Brian Stokes Mitchell has been a George Mason University favorite since headlining the 2006 scholarship fundraiser. This Saturday, he fills the stage of the school’s Hylton Center with songs that established his career, together with some personal favorites. “I’m looking forward to performing with my own trio,” he said. “They’re great jazz artists, so this will give me the opportunity to mix accessible jazz numbers with Broadway songs to show people that the two genres work well together.”

A frequent visitor to the city, he was in town earlier this spring to present a selection of Duke Ellington songs at Strathmore, backed by the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.
