ForD.C. Lottery players, fiscal 2007 was a very good year. A bizarre and historic year, in fact.
The lottery’s overall prize payout in the year ended Sept. 30 was $145.3 million, or a record 56.7 percent of overall sales, Jeanette Michael, executive director of the D.C. Lottery and Charitable Games Control Board, told a D.C. Council committee Wednesday. The DC-4 game paid out a staggering 62.4 percent of sales of $84.6 million.
“Historically, the D.C. Lottery anticipates a price payout in the range of 51 to 52 percent,” Michael told the finance and revenue panel.
The lottery transferred $65.4 million to the city’s general fund in 2007, short of the expected $69.1 million. Sales totaled $257.9 million.
Fiscal 2008 payouts have returned to a more normal 52 percent, Michael said.
