The conservative Family Research Council is starting a fundraising campaign to “educate” lawmakers about Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins wrote a fundraising solicitation on Thursday with the goal of raising $200,000 by the Monday start of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearings on Gorsuch’s nomination.
“When you donate to fight back, your gift will be doubled. Fellow FRC supporters have offered to MATCH all gifts to this campaign dollar for dollar up to a combined amount of $100,000 to help reach our $200,000 goal,” Perkins wrote in the solicitation. “This will also help as we formulate plans to educate lawmakers and the public regarding other nominees to follow Judge Gorsuch. Your gift will help FRC give senators the FACTS that will STOP the attacks and give us a new Supreme Court and a better America.”
The Family Research Council identified four groups and people on the Left it believes may be trying to thwart Gorsuch’s confirmation: the American Civil Liberties Union, Planned Parenthood, billionaire George Soros and former President Barack Obama. Perkins offered as evidence of Obama’s potential role in blocking Gorsuch that the former president “is staying in Washington, D.C., and has a network of loyalists trying to undermine the Trump administration … including the confirmation of Judge Gorsuch.”
The Family Research Council announced its support for Gorsuch immediately after the federal appeals judge was nominated by President Trump. Perkins issued a statement at the time saying he had “every reason to believe [Gorsuch] will make a fine Supreme Court justice.”
