WATCH: Marjorie Taylor Greene references slavery to bash electric airplanes

Conservative firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) raised the issue of slavery while bashing Canada for upping its use of electric planes during a Texas Youth Summit event over the weekend.

Slamming Air Canada for purchasing 30 electric airplanes as “absurd,” Greene mused about how one could even power such aeronautical crafts.

“So we were joking around and talking: ‘How is there an electric airplane, and what does that look like?'” Greene mused. “So we were just making fun and thinking about, remember back a long time ago, when you see movies and people in those slave ships, and they’re down there, and they’re rowing, and they’re being whipped to row?”

“We were saying, ‘How are they going to keep powering these electric airplanes?'” Greene continued. “Is it like a spin class in a tube, and they’ve got everybody riding spin cycles, and then this mean, nasty airline stewardess that forced you to wear masks all the time on the planes … are they going to be forcing you to spin the plane?”

The Texas Youth Summit, which took place at Grace Woodlands Church on Saturday, was a gathering of young conservatives, in which speakers such as Greene espoused the value of conservative principles such as limited government.

She also used her remarks to throw shade at Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

“Air Canada, get this, has ordered 30 electric airplanes. Yeah, electric airplanes. How ’bout that?” Greene said. “It shouldn’t surprise you. Look who’s president of Canada,” she added. “I mean, Justin Trudeau, right?”

Planes often use a variety of means to move forward, but typically, turbofan and turbojet engines rely at least in part on the expulsion of gas to help attain high speeds. Electric planes, by contrast, generally rely on electric-powered mechanisms that move air to push a plane forward.

Greene has been a frequent critic of green energy policies that she deems excessive, most notably the Green New Deal. She recently brought articles of impeachment against President Joe Biden for selling the “American people’s oil to our enemies.”
