Jeopardy host Alex Trebek set to moderate Pennsylvania gubernatorial debate in October

Alex Trebek, longtine Jeopardy host, will be moderating a 45-minute Pennsylvania debate between gubernatorial candidates on Oct. 1, 2018.

The native Canadian, who became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1998, will be asking the questions at the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry’s annual dinner at Hershey Lodge, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The game show host will also be serving as the keynote speaker at the event in Dauphin County, Penn.

All major candidates for governor in Pennsylvania will be invited to participate in the debate, including Republican incumbent Tom Wolf.

Previously, Trebek said he would have loved to have been a moderator in 2012 at a debate between former President Barack Obama and Republican presidential nominee at the time, Mitt Romney.

Trebek told the Hill he would be a good moderator because he wouldn’t let politicians get away with “standard responses.”

“Unlike some of the other moderators — I’m not going to disparage them — but I have a different approach,” Trebek said. “I would not let the politicians get away with standard responses. I would try to pin them down, even though I might look bad doing it.”

In 2014, Trebek said he considered himself to be a social liberal and fiscal conservative, he is registered as an Independent, and admits to voting for both Democratic and Republican candidates.
