Judge unseals more detailed inventory of items taken from Trump’s estate

A federal judge on Friday unsealed a more detailed inventory of the items the FBI seized in the search of former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate stemming from the Aug. 8 search warrant execution.

The development provided few details of the contents discovered in the raid last month at Trump’s Florida estate but offers a deconstructed look at the more than 100 classified documents the Justice Department said it confiscated from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago office.

FBI agents collected 43 empty folders with classified banners inside Trump’s personal office, as well as 28 empty folders that were labeled “return to staff secretary/military aide.” Additionally, there were seven documents marked top secret, three documents marked confidential, and 17 documents marked as secret.

Some containers with the above contents also include clothing, books, and gift items.

Storage of such documents in the former president’s office, rather than the storage room at the estate, may have implications in undermining claims that his attorneys and staff were unaware of the extent classified materials were stored on the property.

And in a filing that came along with the latest inventory details, the DOJ wrote that all evidence, “including the nature and manner in which they were stored,” will inform the investigation.

“The seized materials will continue to be used to further the government’s investigation, and the investigation will continue to use and evaluate the seized materials as it takes further investigative steps, such as through additional witness interviews and grand jury practice,” the DOJ wrote.

Judge Aileen Cannon ordered the release in a court hearing in Florida on Thursday while also ordering a status review of the records seized last month to become unsealed.

Cannon has yet to rule on the question of a review by an independent special master, a request made by Trump’s legal team.
