Suns 121, Wizards 95: At least they didn’t leave it late

Really, there’s no reason to rush to the plane. Word is, there’s nowhere to land here in Washington, what with all the snow…

Nevertheless, the Wizards (8-17) did have one foot out the door for the last of a four-game road trip out West in a listless 121-95 loss at Phoenix (18-9) after working oh-so-hard to break their six-game losing streak the night before against Golden State.

This game was won by Steve Nash the moment he first touched the ball. Not that he was anxious to keep it, with 15 assists to give him an average of 16 in two games against Washington this season. Speaking of good statisitcal averages against Washington, Amar’e Stoudemire had 23 points and 14 rebounds, giving him averages of 20 and 13.

Gilbert Arenas had just four of his team-high 22 points after halftime, looking bothered by a hip bruise suffered last night against the Warriors and frankly out of gas after playing heavy minutes in that game. Nick Young (20 points) and Randy Foye (13 points) padded their stats during a nearly full half of garbage time.

Washington would probably like to say that their four-game swing was incredibly difficult, given the circumstances (injuries, losing streak). But with they way the season is headed — evidenced by how hard they had to fight for a win over one of the worst teams in the Western Conference on Friday — there’s no reason for them to think things will get any easier. Philadelphia comes to town Tuesday but it’s the front end of a back-to-back with a road visit to Milwaukee. I’m not sure of the team’s travel schedule, either, but they have to be in Minnesota three days later — perhaps they should have a team retreat over Christmas somewhere in the back woods of Wisconsin
